Greece And Turkey At Once.We have had a
wonderful experience on the TGE. Both Gordon and Beverley have been excellent hosts. Gordon
sails superbly and has taught us a lot about the sea and about Greek and Turkish history.
Beverley has looked after us expertly - couldn't do enough for us - even helped with the
laundry!! The places we have visited will remain with me forever: Wall Bay, Pirate's Island,
Ekincik, Kumlu Buku, Dalyan, and Selimiye. And fabulous restaurants! A fantastic week! Great
swimming, too! Kateryna Quill, Halstead, Essex, England, July
2004
Greece And Turkey At Once.Fabulous holiday! Great time
had by all! Gordon's choice of food and restaurants is beyond compare. Excellent sailing. And
Beverley is the perfect host. Men may need to prove something to Gordon before being fully
accepted, but he is a great guy with a huge knowledge of ancient history and world affairs. I
will definitely come back. Stephen Quill, Halstead, Essex, England, July
2004
Greece And Turkey At Once. The last week has been an
epic adventure around the coast of Turkey. Gordon and Beverley are pros and provided a classic
boating experience accompanied by a selection of quality restaurants and other dominating
locations with equally great knowledge given. Overall a very good experience both on and off the
boat which was an investment of a lifetime. Thomas Nicks, Halstead, Essex,
England, July 2004
Greece And Turkey At Once.I have enjoyed the last week
very much. All of the restaurants had very good food and I liked the sailing a lot, too. Beverley
was great fun but you have to watch out in case she uses you as a punching bag or misguides you
as to levels of salt in the sea. Christopher Quill, Halstead, Essex,
England, July 2004
Greek Island Hopping In The Dodecanese.Gordon, Beverley,
and the TGE, thanks for a week that in so many ways exceeded my expectations. For me an experience above most
others and hopefully the first of many weeks of sailing in the Mediterranean.
Magnus Berglind, Stockholm, Sweden, July 2004
Greek Island Hopping In The Dodecanese. What a spectacular
week we've had with Gordon (Goh-don) and Beverley (good, ya) aboard the T.G. Ellyson! The
Dodecanese and other Aegean islands were truly fantastic and were enhanced by Gordon's guided
hikes and Beverley's sundowners! The crew went above and beyond the call of duty, and we
thoroughly enjoyed their knowledge of the region, their fine culinary skills, their sense of humor,
and their good company. We hope to return next summer for another week! Please stay in touch and we
hope to see you both again soon. Alissa Lee, San Francisco, California, July
2004
Greek Island Hopping In The Dodecanese.Gohdon and
Bevahlee! Thank you for a beautiful week of sailing - it was a dream come true for me. Ever since
my first trip to Greece seven years ago I've dreamt of coming back. I could not imagine seeing it
in a more beautiful, relaxing, way by sea! You were both so warm and made us feel at home
immediately. I will cherish the memories for years to come - and hope to return soon.
Madhuri Gogineni, Indialantic, Florida, July 2004 P.S. Kerry '04!
Greek Island Hopping In The Dodecanese.A great week of
sailing. Despite some early-on challenges (blown genoa), with improvisation and skill the sailing
was a joy. The islands were a great mix of small and large and quaint and historic. The
hospitality was genuine, abundant, and full of character. Your kindness and patience
in teaching me more about
sailing were most appreciated. The wide range of conversation and varied points of view were an
extra treat. May your business grow and your clients be as appreciative as we are. Last and most
importantly, may the U.S. get a regime change! Go Kerry! I hope we can sail with you again soon!
Warmest Regards, Erik Christofferson, San Francisco, California, July 2004
Greek Island Hopping In The Dodecanese.Dear Gordon &
Beverley, This was a life experience for me! I thoroughly enjoyed these two weeks. And your
company. Thank you to a great sailor and to a lovely "little Mousse."
Corinne Sinclair, Surrey, England, August 2004
Greek Island Hopping In The Dodecanese. We are sailing
novices and I am amazed at how quickly we were put at ease in the experienced and attentive hands
of Gordon and Beverley. Our daily routine of sailing - lunch - siesta - beach - dinner was quickly
established, taking in some wonderful islands all of which had something to offer. The history
lessons from Gordon were a bonus as was the daily competition to find the best octopus salad
and the best ice cream. A truly relaxing holiday and one which we will never forget. Thank you
Gordon and Beverley. Max Sinclair, Surrey, England, August 2004
Greek Island Hopping In The Dodecanese.I enjoyed going
to Selimiye because it was like a jungle, but I didn't like going to Patmos because it was
too noisy. Thank you Gordon and
Beverley. Alexander (The Great) Sinclair (age 8), Surrey, England, August
2004
Greek Island Hopping In The Dodecanese.Dear Gordon and
Beverley, Great sailing, great food, great weather...., what more to say? Hope we were bearable
guests - thank you for making us feel so welcome on your boat.
Adele
Sinclair, Surrey, England, August 2004
Greek Island Hopping In The Dodecanese.Dear Gordon and
Beverley, Fantastic holiday! Keep searching for the perfect octopus salad! Cut down on the gin
and tonic, though... Eleanor Sinclair, Surrey, England, August 2004
Greece And Turkey At Once.Gordon and Wilma, Thank you
for such a wonderful holiday. We had a brilliant time! Enjoyed your company, islands, and the
cocktails. I must say I loved Tilos the best, but your knowledge of all the islands was extremely
interesting. Thank you both. Ana McLaughlin, Hamilton Parish, Bermuda,
September 2004
Greece And Turkey At Once.Thank you guys for a
great trip. Places
excellent. Company great. I thank you again. Alex McLaughlin, Hamilton
Parish, Bermuda, September 2004
Greece And Turkey At Once.I had a great time going
around the islands. And I loved Wilma's cooking. Riley McLaughlin,
Hamilton Parish, Bermuda, September 2004
Greece And Turkey At Once. The food was great, the
captain got us there safely, and the islands were wonderful. I really enjoyed it. Thank you so
much. Conor McLaughlin, Hamilton Parish, Bermuda, September 2004
Turquoise Coast Holiday.
This is the third time we have sailed
aboard the T.G. Ellyson. Each time before I thought I had seen all the beautiful and historical
places on the Turkish coast, but it is now obvious we can return until Gordon has to winch us
aboard in respirators and still not see everything. Among the highlights this year was Arycanda,
beautifully situated several thousand feet up in the mountains and off the beaten path. Ramazan
the local guard was a veritable fountain of information. This ancient site is a must-see for
anyone in the area. The sailing was exciting and demanding. Either the wind was howling and we
were running reefed, or the air was almost still and we were laboring at two or three knots. A
second highlight of the holiday was our visit to the Greek island of Castellorizon. Following a
red snapper feast ashore and late coffee with new-met friends, we got to bed around midnight.
Almost immediately we were assaulted by rain and wind, about forty knots of wind blowing directly
into the harbor. The
crash and clang of neighboring yachts eventually persuaded us to get underway in the dark of
night, but it took an hour of engine labor to exit the harbor as the sea rolled the length of our
yacht. Once around the corner and off the wind, though, there was Jenny offering everyone a hot
breakfast! Neal Whisenand, Palmdale, California, October 2004
Turquoise Coast Holiday. It was wonderful to find
Jenny waiting
for us on arrival at Dalaman Airport. Following a lunch with Sian and William we set sail for
Tomb Bay, Neal, me, Jenny, and Captain Gordon. The restaurant at Tomb Bay has a masseur!! And
tombs, of course. Our next stop was Kalkan where we were treated to the archaeological
restoration at Letoon and also climbed the walls at nearby Pydnae. The crystal-clear swimming
water at Kalkan was an additional treat. There were more fascinating stops at Ucagiz, Finike,
Kekova Roads, and Kastellorizon before our first return to Gocek, and before our second
excursion, this time to Fethiye. But the storm at Kastellorizon was the most unforgettable of
our experiences. It might have been a disaster! We were lucky to have Gordon and his
considerable expertise and Jenny's great help! We had so hoped that Jenny would be able to join
us for our holiday, and are thrilled it all worked out!! Jenny is such a good cook and close
friend! Gordon is Gordon! We couldn't have a better captain or a better guide. And
Sian and
William. I only wish
they all lived less than half a world away!! Leni Whisenand, Palmdale,
California, October 2004
Dear Homo Sapiens, There is no need to continue reading this page.
What follows is intended for search engine robots and spiders and not necessarily for human
beings. Further information concerning our yacht charters may be obtained by clicking on the
teal links immediately above. Thank You.You must be searching for a yacht charter
holiday in Turkey or Greece. You are perhaps dreaming of a cruise along Turkey's Lycian Shore,
of sailing in the wake of the redoubtable Freya Stark. Or more probably you are considering a
honeymoon cruise along the coast of Caria tracing the honeymoon route of Cleopatra. Or possibly
you are contemplating exploration of both, surveying their gulfs and bays as did Thomas Spratt
in 1841. Alternatively you may be looking forward to a cruise among Greek islands, a hop from
one Aegean island to another, picking up the 412 BC track of a Spartan and Syracusan flotilla
of fifty-five warships en route from Leros to relief of Miletus during the war between Sparta
and Athens. You may even be thinking of doing these things aboard a crewed charter yacht. You
are perhaps considering a crewed yacht because the crews of such yachts are presumably familiar
with local geography. You would be correct. These crews are familiar with local geography and
with the history that makes the geography interesting. The geography between Kekova Roads and
Samos is comprised of ancient Lycia, Caria, Ionia, and their offshore islands, including Leros
and Samos, and during the late 5th century BC, rule of these areas was contested by Persia,
Athens, and Sparta. The Lycian dynast at the time, that is, the Lycian king subject to the
great king of Persia, was Kheriga. He ruled between 440 and 410 BC, and before departing this
world dedicated a monument to himself at Xanthos, the Inscribed Pillar. One of our crews can
take you to see the Inscribed Pillar; it's still there, inscribed on all four sides in Lycian
and Greek, the latter then lingua franca in the Mediterranean. Among other things the Inscribed
Pillar tells of Athenian attempts to wrest control of Lycia and Caria from Persia, including a
430/429 BC foray by the Athenian Melesandros with six vessels, perhaps triremes, disembarking
marines at Patara. These, Melesandros included, met an unfortunate end at the hands of Kheriga
near Cyaneae just north of Kekova Roads. Seventeen years later, suggests the Inscribed Pillar,
Kheriga was still fighting Athenians, first at Miletus where he personally slew seven of them
before arrival of the Spartan flotilla cited above, and days later storming the
Athenian-held acropolis at Iasus. You would rather watch dolphins swim back and forth under the
bow than retrace ancient history? As a fellow-mammal you might even wish to swim with dolphins.
If so, your cruise to ancient Iasus has brought you to the right place. Iasus coinage until
arrival of Alexander depicted a boy on a dolphin, and the dolphins are still there. From Iasus
you might also pick up those aforementioned tracks. Freya Stark in 1952 came south from Cesme
through nearby Greek islands including Samos before picking up the Lycian Shore. In fact, more
than half of her Lycian Shore deals not with the Lycian Shore but with Greek islands and
the coast of Caria. Cleopatra also passed nearby in 32 BC, en route from Kos to Ephesus with
four treasure barges. And with Marc Antony. Thomas Spratt, too, sailed by in H.M.S. Beacon
while charting the Carian coast and offshore islands. Let us put you aboard a crewed sailing
yacht for an unforgettable holiday retracing history and swimming with dolphins. Contact us
