Turquoise Coast Holiday. Dear Gordon, Dear Louise, Thank you for a wonderful week! For sharing with us the dramatic coastline, its fascinating history, and the delightful hospitality of all your Turkish friends and acquaintances of your adopted home. Walter Winzenburger, Berea, Ohio, May 1999

Turquoise Coast Holiday. My thanks also for a truly wonderful week. From the chilly waters of Cold Water Bay, the fascination of swimming among the ruins of Aperlae, the magnificence of the tombs of Myra, the mysteries of Pirate Island to the camaraderie of the campfire and the street dancing in Kalkan. And of course the chance to sail on the Mediterranean. It was great! Janet Winzenburger, Berea, Ohio, May 1999

Greek Island Hopping In The Dodecanese. Dear Gordon and Louise, How can I summarize my three week honeymoon on the T.G. Ellyson. So much to write and too little time. Yacht Vacation GreeceFor me it was a dream come true. I've already told my husband that all our holidays must be on sailing vessels. Louise was fabulous. The meals that came out of her kitchen were unbelievable. I am hooked on our feeding schedule of breakfast, lunch, tea time, cocktail hour, dinner, and dessert, with a few odd snacks here and there. Her chipper personality and sailing acumen and ability to keep our floating home immaculate was incredible! Gordon, I've never met a more competent sailor. I trusted you unswervingly, and those days of sailing against the wind and sea confirmed that you really know what you are doing. I loved Turkey, the people are friendly, the food fabulous, and historically it can't be beat. I loved swimming in Cold Water Bay, exploring the ruins at St. Nicholas Island, the ruins at Knidos, the Crusader castle at Bodrum, all of Ephesus and Seljuk, the museum and Roman villa at Kos (Greece), the Monestary of St. John and the cave at Patmos and the knights castle at Rhodes. Even the Greek island Arki (population 40) was charming and the food delicious. Mornings starting with the sounds of goats going to feed and Louise taking our breakfast orders will be etched in my mind for a long time. You and Louise took very good care of us and the boat, and you were also great bridge partners. I feel like I've made new friends and I'm sure our paths will cross again. Don't be strangers. All my love and best wishes for you, Louise, Jenny, and the babies. P.S.. Via con dios mis amigos, hasta la vista, baby! Debbie Kee, Greenbrae, Ca., June 1999

Greek Island Hopping In The Dodecanese. Gordon - In three weeks over four hundred miles of sailing and I never grew tired of it. Every day was different and presented a fresh set of challenges, whether it was parting the main halyard, dealing with a crowded harbor at Kos, beating into 35-knot winds, finding ourselves on Nisis Gaidharos and reworking our itinerary, dealing with that "filthy sea" in Rhodes, or just the endless combinations of sails as conditions merited. You are a wonderful sailor in whom anyone can safely trust their Odyssey. Louise, like Debby I am constantly amazed by your abilities in very difficult cooking and sailing situations. Your cheerful manner always added an extra Yacht Vacation Greecebrightness to the day. Fondly, Terry Kee, Greenbrae, Ca., June 1999

Turquoise Coast Holiday. Dear Gordon and Louise, If it hadn't been for Boat U.S. we would have probably never met the best boat skipper and best hostess afloat. Gordon, we'll always remember your smiling face over your corn flakes and raisins, and your perseverance at the helm with 20-knot winds in three sails. You both made us power-boaters appreciate the skill of true sailors; we certainly didn't earn a merit badge for our own knowledge of lines and sails. "Clockwise, Susan, clockwise." Louise, we thank you for your wonderful cheery self, and for offers of lots of cherry juice. After a hard day at the sails and helm you produced a very fine gin and tonic. No matter how hard the day you continued to meet our every need. Gordon, thanks for being a wonderful tour guide while the guests struggled to keep up (and never mentioning it). Thanks for sharing your knowledge of the Turkish coast and for being a true sailor. If Susan had your balance she could have been a ballerina! We'll always remember both of you and the wonderful world you opened to us! May both of you have everything you desire. You certainly work very hard at making your guests feel at home. Best Regards, Derek and Susan Rennie, Ashford, Ct., June 1999

Turquoise Coast Holiday. Gordon & Louise, We really appreciated your professional seamanship, intriguing itinerary, and your historical perspective of our day-trip adventures. I wish I had been more knowledgeable about crewing on your sailing boat, but I learned new facts about sailing. I especially enjoyed the browsing for new ports and the tours of ruins. I wish I'd had this experience in high school, because Greek and Roman Civilizations would have been much more meaningful. Thank you for sharing your time with us and showing us your world. Louise, you are such a peach. I appreciate your kindness. Jim and Norma Brown, Stockton, Ca., July 1999

Turquoise Coast Holiday. Gordon & Louise, What an adventure! We thoroughly enjoyed our trip. The sights were incredible and Gordon's knowledge was amazing. History came to life. Gordon, you certainly know the best spots to dine and we can't think of anyplace that wasn't unique and fabulous. Louise, your charm, cooking ability, and sense of humor is awesome. Thanks for everything. P.S. Thanks for the ultimate high, paragliding off of 6000' Baba Dag! What a high! Boy, did we fly! Roy and Mary Richison, Stockton, Ca., July 1999

Flat-Water Sailing Holiday. Thanks so much for such an enjoyable sailing experience in Turkey. We loved every minute of our trip. Louise was the perfect hostess - always willing to go for a swim! Gordon made the evening dinners great fun - introducing us to his friends Mehmet and Ali. "Yes - we did it" - jumped off Baba Dag, a definite highlight. Thanks again for the entire sailing experience. Linda Burnham, Castle Rock, Col., July 1999

Flat-Water Sailing Holiday. Gordon, thanks for the wonderful trip. Six knots instead of 600 knots makes for a very enjoyable ride. The scenery goes by much slower. A beautiful and professional trip. Don Burnham, Castle Rock, Col., July 1999

Greek Island Hopping In The Dodecanese. Dear Gordon and Louise, Thank you for a spectacular week. Yacht Vacation
Travel GreeceFor me it was a dream come true. While my husband is an avid sailor, because of me, his normally seasick wife, our sailing adventures are limited. You somehow managed to give us each an experience of a lifetime. Gordon - your nautical knowledge and historical lore are amazing. They add a unique dimension to the trip. And Louise - your attention to detail from cook to crew adds an element of luxury & fun. I never thought I would ever say I wanted to remain on the boat, but I hope to be back soon! Thank You, Kathy Corey, Del Mar, Ca., August 1999

Greek Island Hopping In The Dodecanese. Dear Gordon and Louise, This was a spectacular week for both Kathy and myself. The sailing experience was fantastic on so many levels. The historical, cultural, culinary, and geographic aspects were icing on the cake, so to speak. We both really appreciated the fine care and attention you gave us, and both appreciate your friendship. It was truly a wonderful and relaxing voyage. Safe Travels, Paul Corey, Del Mar, Ca., August 1999

Greek Island Hopping In The Dodecanese. Gordon & Louise - This was truly the experience of a lifetime. I never thought I would be sailing the Greek islands and exploring Turkey. The bays and coves for swimming were perfect, the ancient ruins incredible. You were the perfect host and hostess to guide and help me enjoy everything. Thank you for all you do - maybe someday I can come again. Be Safe Always, Diane Miller, Canyon Country, Ca., September 1999

Greek Island Hopping In The Dodecanese. Gordon & Louise - I didn't want to come on this trip for lots of reasons. Now I am glad I did. Had a good time, good food, good drink, and good company. Henry Miller, Canyon Country, Ca., September 1999

Greek Island Hopping In The Dodecanese. Gordon & Louise - I started thinking about a special trip for our 25th wedding anniversary over two years ago. This trip has been everything I wanted. The sailing was great, the places we stopped uniformly interesting, and the octopus salads were of only two grades, good and better. Leni and I are already making plans for another visit in a couple of years. Neal Whisenand, Palmdale, Ca., September 1999

Greek Island Hopping In The Dodecanese. Gordon and Louise, Thanks for making this a very special trip! I haven't travelled far from the U.S. except once. This has really whetted my appetite! We haven't been sailing for years and now that we're into it again, sailing will be part of some future trips. Gordon has been a terrific captain, guide and dinner director - so much knowledge about Turkey and Greece! Louise has done everything to make our meals on the boat tasty and enjoyable, including making hot dogs (which she calls sausage!), and the second time she did so she even figured out the pickles are what she calls gherkins! And the tomatoes are a whole new great tasting food!! Thank you both for all the great days of sightseeing and swimming, and nights of varied starters, dinners, drinks, and desserts!! Leni Whisenand, Palmdale, Ca., September 1999

Flat-Water Sailing Holiday. We have sailed many times in the Caribbean, and were Yacht Vacation Travel Turkey looking for a new sailing spot. We found it here in Turkey - the best yet! Friendly people, spectacular scenery, ancient history, great food, and easy sailing. Thanks for an enjoyable and relaxing vacation. See you next year. John Kritkausky, Wilmington, Del., September 1999

Flat-Water Sailing Holiday. Dear Gordon & Louise, The sail with you and our visit to Turkey have exceeded expectations. I've been pleasantly surprised by the friendly nature of the Turkish people. And the Food! Well, it has been fabulous! Can't wait for my return visit. I think we have found a new sailing destination. Thanks for making our holiday so very enjoyable. Marguerite Kritkausky, Wilmington, Del., September 1999

Greek Island Hopping In The Dodecanese. A wonderful way to see Greek islands! Rudolf and Marianne Schrimpff, Bogota, Colombia, October 1999

Greek Island Hopping In The Dodecanese. This motley bunch staggered on board, shamed the captain with our lack of seamanship, ate, drank, swam, and even took in some culture as we were elegantly transported from one island to another, all the while looked after by Louise. Veronica Dare-Bryan, St. Aquilin, France, October 1999

Greek Island Hopping In The Dodecanese. An excellently planned and performed cruise. An unforgettable trip both educationally and personally. Carl Isakson, St. Aquilin, France, October 1999

Dear Homo Sapiens, There is no need to continue reading this page. What follows is intended for search engine robots and spiders and not necessarily for human beings. Further information concerning vacation travel in Greece and Turkey may be obtained by clicking on the white links immediately above. Thank You. You must be searching for a yacht vacation in Turkey or for a yacht vacation in Greece. You may be thinking of a crewed yacht charter in the Aegean or eastern Mediterranean. You may even be wondering where one begins and the other ends, the Aegean and Mediterranean. If so, you might consider one of our yacht vacations cruising the southwest corner of Turkey and neighboring islands of Greece. We can show you where the one ends and the other begins. Were you to draw a line on a map joining the Dodecanese islands of Kos, Nesiros, Tilos, Khalki, southwestern Rhodes, Karpathos, and Kasos to Crete, well, you would have a pretty good idea yourself. These same islands excepting the last three, it might be noted, were for more than two hundred years occupied by the Knights of Saint John of Jerusalem. Always termed Knights Hospitaller from their origins running a hospice in Jerusalem, they were during the years 1306-1522 also called the Knights of Rhodes. Latin Christians, they had wrested control of Rhodes and other islands in addition to those mentioned from a terminally ill Byzantine Empire, establishing unwelcome rule over a "schismatic" Greek Orthodox population. They also established themselves on the mainland at Smyrna (Izmir) in 1374, remaining until evicted by Timur (Tamerlane) in 1402, and at Bodrum in 1407, remaining until 1522 when there and elsewhere sent packing by Suleiman the Magnificent. Smyrna and Bodrum were at the time also populated in substantial measure by restive Greek Orthodox natives still chaffing at the Fourth Crusade sack of Constantinople. This chaffing by "schismatics" gave rise to several generations of sixteenth century Christian sea captains in the employ of the Ottoman Empire. Called Reis, or Captain, by Turks, and called pirate by Latin knights, Venetians, and Genoese, these sea captains took on the red-hulled, black-prowed, galleys of the Knights as well as galleys of Venice and Genoa, the other two Latin powers in the Aegean. So now you have one abbreviated chapter at the crossroads of history. Come travel these crossroads yourself, breathe the aroma of pine-shrouded coves dotting Turkey's Turquoise Coast, bask under a warm Aegean sun after swimming in its azure sea, join in the search for a perfect tsatziki, climb to an ancient acropolis re-fortified by these same Knights, enjoy the luxury of a catered yacht charter in Greece and Turkey. Surely this is the vacation in Turkey or Greece for which you search. Rare comfort under sun at the crossroads of history. Try it! You'll like it! Contact us today at tgeweb@aol.com
